Why fabric shears are not knives
A pair of shears cuts by two blades sliding past each other, not by wedging through material the way a knife does. Everything about how they feel comes from a single contact point traveling cleanly from the pivot to the tip.
The most common damage I see in Austin is shears that came back from a knife sharpener with both blades ground flat, inside faces included. The edges look sharp, but the set that made the contact point work is gone, so the shears fold fabric instead of cutting it.
If a pair comes to me already flattened, I will tell you honestly whether it can be brought back before I charge you anything.
