The Process
How Knife Chip Repair Works
We Inspect the Damage
When you drop off your knife, we assess the chip or tip damage. Most chips are repairable during standard sharpening at no extra cost.
Grind Out the Chip
We use our belt grinder to carefully remove the damaged metal. The chip is ground smooth, reshaping the edge to remove all cracks and defects.
Resharpen to Factory Geometry
After grinding out the damage, we sharpen the knife to the correct angle -- 15deg for Japanese, 20deg for German -- so the entire edge is sharp and consistent.
Test for Smoothness
We test the edge to ensure no rough spots remain. Your knife comes back sharp, smooth, and chip-free -- ready for immediate use.

FAQ
Knife Chip Repair FAQ
How much does knife chip repair cost?
Chip and tip repair is always included FREE with sharpening. We repair chips up to 3-4mm at no additional cost. Larger damage may require regrinding, which we quote case-by-case.
Can you fix a chipped knife blade?
Yes. We repair chipped knife blades by grinding out the damage and reshaping the edge. Most chips are fixed during standard sharpening at no extra charge. The knife comes back sharp with a smooth, chip-free edge.
Can you repair a broken knife tip?
Yes -- we repair broken knife tips by reshaping the point. Small tip breaks are included free with sharpening. Major tip damage (over 1cm) may slightly alter the blade profile but restores full functionality.
How long does knife chip repair take?
Chip repair is completed during the sharpening process. Same-day service available at our North Austin drop box -- drop before noon, pick up sharp that evening.
Will chip repair change my knife's shape?
Small chips (under 3-4mm) are removed with minimal profile change. Larger chips require more metal removal and may slightly alter the blade shape, but the knife remains fully functional and balanced.
