Chainsaw Chain Sharpening in Austin, TX

I do not sharpen chainsaw chains right now. If enough people want it, I will add it, and the waitlist is how I decide. Everything else with an edge, I already sharpen.

Why I am not doing chainsaws yet

A chainsaw chain is not a blade, it is dozens of small cutters that all have to match, plus depth gauges that have to be filed down in step with them. Get the gauges wrong and the saw either stops cutting or grabs. It takes a dedicated chain grinder and a different skill set than the work I do every day.

I would rather tell you I am not set up for it than take your chain and hand back something worse than what you brought me. If demand is there, I will buy the grinder and learn it properly.

What I can sharpen for you today

• Axes and hatchets - $15 single bevel, $20 double bevel
• Loppers and pruners - $15
• Push mower blades - $10, balancing included
• Kitchen and pocket knives - $15 under 7 inches, $20 for 7 and over
• Machetes and outdoor blades - $15 to $20 by length

Chip and tip repair is included on all of it at no extra charge.

Who to use in the meantime

Most small engine and outdoor power equipment shops in Austin sharpen chains, and a lot of hardware stores do it as a counter service. If you run a saw often, a hand file and a guide is a twenty dollar investment that will keep you cutting between professional grinds.
