FAQ

Common Questions

About tool sharpening in Austin

How much does tool sharpening cost in Austin?+
Lawn mower blades are $10 each (balancing included). All other tools -- axes, hatchets, machetes, loppers, pruners, paper cutters, vet instruments, and pizza cutters -- are $15 each. No hidden fees.
What tools do you sharpen?+
Lawn mower blades (walk-behind push mowers only), axes, hatchets, machetes, loppers, pruners, paper cutters, vet instruments, and pizza cutters. If you have something not listed, text us a photo.
Do you balance mower blades after sharpening?+
Yes. Every mower blade is balanced after sharpening using precision equipment. Balancing is included in the $10 price and prevents the vibration that damages spindle bearings.
Do I need to clean my tools before dropping them off?+
Remove excess dirt and loose debris, but don't worry about rust or dried sap -- that is handled as part of the sharpening process.
Can you sharpen electric or gas-powered tool blades?+
We sharpen manual garden tools and removable mower blades. We do not sharpen powered hedge trimmer blades, chainsaw chains, or reciprocating saw blades.
How sharp do axes and hatchets get?+
A properly sharpened splitting axe has a convex bevel -- not a razor edge -- that is designed to split wood rather than slice it. A chopping axe or hatchet gets a finer edge. We sharpen to the geometry that is correct for each tool's purpose.
What is the difference between loppers and pruning shears?+
Pruning shears (hand pruners) are one-handed tools for stems up to about 3/4 inch. Loppers have long handles for two-handed use on branches up to 2 inches. Both are $15 per tool.
How long does tool sharpening take?+
Most tools are done same day or next day. Drop off in the 24/7 drop box at 9407 Longvale Dr and we text you when ready.
