How to Ship Knives for Sharpening Safely

Step-by-Step Packing Guide
Wrap each blade individually
Cut cardboard to length, fold it around the blade edge, and tape securely. Do not use newspaper alone — it tears. Two layers of cardboard per blade is ideal.
Use a rigid box, not a padded envelope
Padded envelopes compress in transit and a blade can poke through. A USPS Priority Mail Medium Flat Rate box works perfectly and costs the same regardless of weight.
Fill all dead space
Crumpled kraft paper or bubble wrap around the wrapped blades stops movement. Shake the closed box — nothing should shift.
Include a note inside
Your name, phone number, and a list of what you sent (e.g. '3 chef knives, 1 paring knife'). This is how we match your package to your order.
Label the outside
Write "Sharp Objects — Handle With Care" on at least two sides. USPS carriers appreciate the heads-up and it reduces rough handling.
Ship and track
Drop at any USPS, UPS, or FedEx location. Keep your tracking number. We text you when the package arrives.
Which Carrier to Use
USPS Priority Mail is the best option for most people — flat-rate pricing, 2–3 day delivery, and included tracking.
| Carrier | Cost | Speed | Tracking |
|---|---|---|---|
| USPS Priority MailRecommended | $8–$14 (Flat Rate box) | 2–3 business days | Included, $100 insurance |
| UPS Ground | $10–$18 | 3–5 business days | Full tracking included |
| FedEx Ground | $11–$20 | 3–5 business days | Full tracking included |
USPS note: Knives are allowed in USPS packages — they are not prohibited. The restriction only applies to blades as carry-on items for air travel. Ship with confidence.
