How close am I to you

I work out of North Austin, 78729, just off Anderson Mill and 183. That puts me inside a short drive of most of the north and northwest side, and a reasonable one from almost everywhere else in the metro. If the drive does not make sense for you, I will come to your porch instead, or you can mail your knives in.

A few minutes away

Anderson Mill, Jollyville, Milwood, Balcones Woods, Spicewood Springs, Great Hills, Lakeline

Most people in these neighborhoods are at the drop box faster than they could park at a store.

A short drive

Cedar Park, Round Rock, Brushy Creek, Avery Ranch, Wells Branch, Northwest Hills, The Domain, North Burnet

Worth combining with an errand you already had on that side of town.

Farther out

Leander, Pflugerville, Georgetown, Steiner Ranch, Central and South Austin

Porch pickup usually makes more sense than driving up. Text me your address and I will quote the travel fee before I book anything.

Questions I get asked

How close are you to me?

I am in North Austin, 78729, off Anderson Mill and 183. If you are on the north or northwest side you are usually a few minutes out. If you are farther, porch pickup or mail-in is probably easier than the drive. Text me your neighborhood and I will tell you straight which one makes sense.

Are you open right now?

The drop box is. It sits on the front porch at 9407 Longvale Dr and it is accessible any hour of any day. You do not need to catch me at home and you do not need an appointment.

Do you come to me?

Yes, Monday through Friday. Leave the knives on your porch in a towel and I will pick them up. Porch pickup has a $150 minimum plus a trip fee of $20 to $40 depending on where you are. I quote the trip fee before I book so you know the number first.

Can I mail my knives to you?

Yes, from anywhere in the country, and there is no minimum order. Pack them so no edge is exposed, use a box rather than a padded envelope, and include a note with your name and phone number. I sharpen them 1 to 3 business days after the package arrives and ship them right back. I cover return shipping on 8 items or more.

How long does it take?

Most local orders are ready the same day. Large batches and heavy restoration work take longer, and I will tell you up front if yours is one of those. Mail-in is 1 to 3 business days after arrival.

How much is it?

$15 for knives under 7 inches and $20 for 7 inches and over. Chip and tip repair is included, so a knife with a broken tip costs the same as one that just went dull.

What if my knife is chipped or the tip broke off?

Bring it. Chip and tip repair is included at no extra charge, and it is most of what I enjoy about the work. A knife has to be pretty far gone before I tell you it is not worth saving, and if it is, I will tell you that instead of charging you.

Do you sharpen anything besides knives?

Scissors, fabric shears, garden shears, pruners, loppers, axes, hatchets, and push mower blades. See everything else I sharpen.

Do you sharpen hair or grooming shears?

Not right now. Those need a different setup and I have a waitlist rather than open booking for them.
